Weekend Reading 1-16-10
There are plenty of Link Roundups and “Mashup” articles floating around these days (I am including a couple in my post) and usually these articles are a list of links with titles and possibly a short description.
I like link roundup articles for a couple of reasons. First, because it is all about Blogger Luv. Linking out to other bloggers helps promote someone else (unselfish) while helping readers to discover a blog they may not be reading.
Usually theses articles are either a list of just links, or a list of links with a couple of words to describe it. I want to try something different with my list and write more like a standard article with more text surrounding the links I am sharing giving a description of the article and why you should read it.I believe in content links have more weight as far as showing “trust” than just your regular list of links (just my theory), and even if it doesn’t I hope it will read easier.

Business Blogging:
A gem I got in my feed reader yesterday was from Karl at FMSSEO. He wrote and article detailing 15 Tools to add to your Business Box. He outlines 15 great FREE apps and tools for you to download. Some of them include FTP, office suite, photo editing, and a couple of nifty tools for webmasters too. Give it a read, I am sure you will find something you like.
Extreme John is one of my favorite blogs to read, you never know what the topic is going to be, and he is one of the hardest working bloggers I know, an inspiration to us all. He recently had a guest post from Sushant Risodkar who owns Smartbloggerz. Sushant writes a great article on Do’s and Don’ts of Business Blogging. Blogging for business is how I got started in blogging and I still blog for business now.
Web Design:
I come across articles that are about design and even though I am not a professional designer myself, I like to develop wordpress sites using quality themes, and I am always on the lookout for cool stuff. I found this article showcasing Free Grunge Texture Sets and thought I would share with you, has some cool graphics some of you may enjoy.
Next we go over to Evolutionary Designs to make a Floating Twitter Badge (made mine this morning using this tutorial). I have seen them on plenty of sites, and I like that it “floats” so it is always present on the page. Really easy to do using his tutorial and only took a couple of minutes.
Link Roundups:
Finally I want to end with a couple of link roundups I liked this week. The first one comes from Brandon Cox over at We Blog Better. Brandon puts out a list of Links For Bloggers (65 Links) and there are some really catchy titles. The links cover just about any topic related to blogging you can think of.
Kristi from Kikolani is another one of the hardest working bloggers I know. I am lucky enough to get to work with her over on Blogger Luv. Kristi puts out a list every Friday called Fetching Friday – Resources Mashup. This is a healthy list of links that are categorized (I stole that idea from her for this list
) and easy to scroll through looking for the titles that peak your interest.
Conclusion:
So what do you think? Do you like this way of making roundups, using less links and more descriptive text? Be sure to go check ou tthe articles and sites I listed, and if you like them comment and re-tweet or share however you share to show your appreciation for these hardworking underpaid bloggers!

Thanks for the mention Keith and I’m glad you found the post useful.
Hey Keith,
This is a nice way to present the round-up. It must so cool working with Kristi. I’m right behind you on the floating Twitter badge widget. Thanks for the tips..
Thanks for the mention, Keith. The Follow me badge looks good. =)
I like the way you have done your roundup. Knowing a bit about each link made me want to check them out. Which I did.
I also prefer the format.
I like the Twitter “Follow Me” badge as well and have put one on my site. I used a Wordpress plugin for mine that I found at wpburn.
Wow Keith I really appreciate the kind words, that was certainly a nice little surprise to see when I jumped through here today. Thank you.
