Upgrade to Wordpress 2.9 Problems
Wordpress 2.9 is now available, and the familiar “please update now” link is shown at the top of my admin page on Wordpress.
Usually I don’t hesitate to upgrade and have not had any problems in the past, but for some reason, this time it wiped me out! I had to reinstall Wordpress in my cPanel and reinstall my theme and plugins too! Luckily this was on Saturday, and I had just begun to install everything on this site and Saturday was my first “live” day with this blog.
I was able to recover fairly quickly from this problem and determined that the problem was in a couple of my plugins I use. Because I use mostly the same plugins on all my sites, I decided to wait to upgrade the rest of them.

Another valuable lesson here is to back up your site on a regular basis, there are easy to use applications within most cPanels that will allow you to do a full back up and have a compressed file emailed to you.

No problems here this time.
I never have had problems before, but this one didn’t like a couple of my plugins, and I like them more than upgrading right now. Hopefully they will get all bugs worked out and I can get upgraded soon.

I upgraded with no problems, but I have to admit I am pretty slack about backups and such. I even email backups to myself automatically on a daily basis because I know how slack I am.
I’ve even got a test blog that should be testing upgrades and new plugins and shit, but do I use it. Nope. One of these days it’s gonna hit me where it hurts.

Did you figure out what blew up the upgrade for you. I use a lot of plugins and haven’t made the jump to 2.9 yet. Maybe over the holiday break. I’ll make sure I have a good backup of the DB and files before I try the upgrade.
I am pretty sure it was either the commentluv or dofollow plugins so I will wait a little longer…
Enjoyed your take on WordPress 2.9. I agree. Back up your files! I’ve had no problems and like 2.9, but am still looking for more in WordPress 3.0. Here’s my thoughts on the newest version of WordPress.
